As I start this new venture, I’ve been asked “why did you start your own brokerage?”
Reflecting on various moments in my life, I realize how swiftly plans can be altered in the blink of an eye. It is during these challenging periods, when the unthinkable occurs, that your community—those individuals who have devoted their hearts and souls to you, as you have to them—demonstrate their unwavering support, standing by your side through thick and thin.
As a Virginia and DC Broker/Realtor, I recognize that when individuals purchase a home, they are also investing in a community. It is my belief that one must genuinely appreciate life and embrace the relationships it offers, through both the peaks and valleys. ModernJones was founded with the mission of assisting families in finding a community they can proudly call home.
Embarking on the journey to establish my own real estate brokerage was a logical next step, after 18 years in the industry, presented an opportunity to first and foremost cultivate a nurturing work environment for agents. This supportive atmosphere would empower them to maintain a healthy work-life balance while delivering exceptional service. In turn, our brokerage would prioritize clients’ needs, guiding them through significant life decisions with a luxury real estate experience beyond expectation.
I am a leading real estate broker, venture capitalist, community advocate and executive coach.
ModernJones, where I serve as the Founder and Principal Broker, is the inspiration behind my many professional interests.
Opened in 2018, ModernJones is a boutique brokerage specializing in luxury real estate in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan region. Over the years, we have been recognized for multi-million dollar sales in notable industry publications like NOVA Real Producers and regional lifestyle magazines such as Washingtonian, Arlington and DC.
With the ModernJones principle of “Experience Beyond Expectation” in mind, I launched a new series of real estate workshops in early 2023. My goal is to inspire and educate the next generation of brokers and realtors by utilizing interactive course materials and sharing my industry knowledge and experiences.
Prior to founding ModernJones, I served as vice president in Citibank’s e-citi division, leading the General Service Administration’s pioneering smart card project. Later, I joined Reciprocal, a cloud-based content encryption start up, and sold digital rights management to publishing companies. I also worked as a consultant for Visa.
I support a variety of local and national organizations that champion mentorship, entrepreneurship and women’s causes. I volunteer with the Georgetown Scholarship Program, which helps students who are first in their families to attend college, and act as an angel investor with Pipeline Angels, a network that encourages women to pursue venture capital opportunities and invests in women-owned businesses. Since 2020, I have served on the host committee for the Women Making History Awards Gala, an annual fundraiser that supports the National Women’s History Museum in Washington, DC. I also donate my time to nonprofits including COMPASS, Doorways for Women and Families and Bridges to Independence.
My next chapter of passion projects is focused on fundraising to help women in third-world countries through Yoga Medicine’s Seva Foundation and Her Future Coalition. The organizations work in tandem to support young women experiencing human trafficking, sexual exploitation and gender violence by empowering them through education and entrepreneurship.
I hold a bachelor’s degree in biology and human development from Kansas University and a master’s degree in public policy from Georgetown University as well as an International Management Certificate from Trinity College of the University of Oxford in England.
